Wastewater treatment plant on Wintergreen Mountain now state-of-the-art
Wintergreen mountain’s wastewater plant was reported to beputting “drinking water quality” into Pond Hollow Creek, according to the March 2025 board minutes of the Nelson County Service Authority. The state-of-the-art system using membrane bioreactors that made the high-quality wastewater possible was a long time in coming, and it didn’t come cheap. The groundbreaking for the new $18.5 million plant was in March 2022, but the project began in 2014.

One reading from what’s presented is that the ACP would have never worked; it was dead from the get-go. The utility was probably lucky to get out when it did.

State-of-the-art playground installed at RVCC
The James M. Cowley Community Playground on the west side of the Rockfish Valley Community Center [map] was installed in the spring of 2024. It includes a multi-level climbing and sliding complex, elaborate swing sets, “musical play features” in the shape of flowers, a play tunnel with a bridge, two twisting slides, climbing swings, and–in the middle of it all–comfortable benches under established shade trees for parents, grandparents, and babysitters.

The Executive Director of the Wintergreen Property Owners Association barely mentioned the proposed Renaissance Ridge development in his initial presentation at the 2023 annual meeting on November 11th. But during the question and answer part of the meeting a property owner voiced concerns about “workforce housing” being part of the development. Tuckahoe Clubhouse gets a new patio
Jay Roberts outlines some of the plans for the new patio at Tuckahoe Clubhouse which should be completed by May. “It will be two or three years before the plantings are mature,” Roberts notes.“This is a work in progress. The flexible layout allows us to adjust seating areas based on how the space is used."
